Colin Macdonald Alternative School
About
Colin Macdonald Community School, formerly known as Dundas Montessori School, was founded in September 1993 by Colin Macdonald and Barbara Milne. Initially located in their home, the school began with 8 students aged 3 to 10. Tragically, Colin passed away in a car accident in January 1994, and the school was renamed in his honor. Over the years, the school moved to different locations before settling in the former Binkley School on Sanders Boulevard in West Hamilton in September 2000. In 2001, the school introduced the world-renowned Arrowsmith Program and became a not-for-profit corporation. It continued to grow, eventually changing its name to Colin Macdonald Community School in 2004 to reflect its community-focused approach. Barbara Milne passed the torch to Christine Borsellino in 2005, and in 2006, the school began offering its own full-time resource program. The school relocated again in 2009 to 1570 Main Street West. The school’s foundation is based on a creative and child-centered approach to education, aiming to promote personal and academic growth. It serves the Westdale, Hamilton, Ancaster, and Dundas communities.
