Mountain View Montessori School
About
Mountain View Montessori School is a preschool and daycare that focuses on following the child in developing a lifelong love of learning. They provide an environment that guides and nurtures individual self-construction, allowing children to define themselves, think objectively, make independent decisions, and live an inspired life. The school strives to respect, educate, and serve a diversity of families and aims to have a positive global effect through cosmic education. They adhere and commit to the guidelines and standards of the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI). Mountain View Montessori School was incorporated in 1998 and was previously known as Trinity Montessori, which was founded in 1970 as an outreach program for Trinity Episcopal Church in downtown Reno. After expanding to include an elementary class in 1994, the school experienced enrollment growth until the flood of 1997 prompted the need for a location change. In September 1999, they moved to 565 Zolezzi Lane and adopted the name Mountain View Montessori. With the new location, the school was able to expand their children’s house and elementary classes as well as add toddler and adolescent communities. The school is inspired by Maria Montessori, who was the first woman to be granted a medical degree by the University of Rome. She developed the Montessori method based on her studies and observations of early childhood education. The Montessori method has been revolutionizing education for over 115 years and is present in numerous countries worldwide. The Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) and Educateurs Sans Frontières (ESF) are organizations dedicated to promoting and furthering Montessori principles and practices globally. Dr. Maria Montessori founded AMI in 1929 and ESF works to serve children through innovative educational initiatives, regardless of race, religion, political beliefs, or social beliefs.
