Piedmont Progressive Preschool
About
In 2001, Mary Coppola and Susan Burns met at an open preschool and decided to start their own non-profit progressive preschool closer to home. They based their school on the philosophy of Sue Riley, an early-childhood educator, and chose the Piedmont Unitarian Universalist Church as its location. The preschool opened in 2001 and has since expanded to include different age groups. In 2005, leadership was transferred to a Parent Council model, and Sharon King became the chair. In 2012, Michele Deese took on the role of director. The preschool thrives due to the partnership between parents and teachers, providing a nurturing environment where each child’s individuality is respected.
